MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. —
With the start of the new school year right around the corner, the Martin County Sheriff's Office wants to make sure soft targets are also protected.
They are focusing on preschoolers.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office already has a presence at the local public schools but Chief deputy John Budensiek said they now hope to reach out to facilities that aren't mainstream and in need of resources when it comes to school safety.
"While I'm not trying to highlight where some of these softer spots are," Budensiek said. "We wanted to go above and beyond where we currently are and start looking at some of the private schools and preschools that don't have the same protections that are afforded to the public school system."
The sheriff's office is reaching out to those local preschools.
