Hundreds of thousands of flights come in and out of the Treasure Coast each year, yet very few are the typical passenger airline.
Still, the region's three largest airports — Treasure Coast International, Vero Beach Regional and Witham Field in Martin County — exert an economic impact, each with its own unique function, philosophy and plan for the future.
All three are general-aviation airports, which usually serve private aircraft and small charter operations, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. While only one has commercial passenger service, they all still help local economies by providing jobs and space for aeronautical and non-aeronautical businesses.
