Ernest F. "Ernie" Lyons was among the very first to use his pen and local publishing prowess to sound the alarm on the need to protect the magnificence of the Indian River Lagoon.
As the beloved editor of the Stuart News and a member of the Florida Newspaper Hall of Fame, Lyons was a voice to reckon with for many decades in South Florida and beyond. His reasoning on environmental issues withstands the years, and his innate understanding of the health of the lagoon was as scientifically sound as any bona fide biologist may have rendered.
