Stuart begins with reforms, including banning chokeholds and considering creation of racism board

STUART — City officials offered “first steps” toward improving race relations, but reiterated the time is now to act on long-standing issues in East Stuart, such as policing, and housing and development, along with improving something more abstract and challenging: trust. 

Among the first steps: Stuart Police Department has banned the chokehold; city commissioners, mostly, offered sweeping apologies for racist remarks made by the public last week at a city meeting.
