There were two close calls on the waters off Florida during the past two weeks. In both cases, mariners' carefully laid plans went awry. Combined, a total of eight souls were nearly lost at sea. Thankfully, everyone made it home safely, and lived to tell their tales.
It's a plight many of us who boat and fish for pleasure, or for our livelihood, take for granted. Far too often, we're eager to jump on board the vessel of a friend or acquaintance with little regard for how much training the boat's operator has had.
