Martin County Commissioner Sarah Heard eventually may get her attorney’s fees, related to an acquittal on public-records violations, paid by taxpayers, but not before the $450,363 criminal-defense bill is audited by an expert.

In a 4-0 vote, with Heard abstaining, county commissioners Tuesday voted to hire an outside expert to work with Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller Carolyn Timmann to review the invoice Stuart attorneys Jordan Wagner and his partner/wife Barbara Kibbey Wagner submitted for successfully defending Heard against two misdemeanor charges during a week-long trial in April.
