People in Hobe Sound, I fear, are talking right past one another.
On Aug. 28, the town will vote on whether Hobe Sound should incorporate as a municipality, as Indiantown did earlier this year.
Behind the incorporation push is a group of business owners and longtime residents who say too often, Hobe Sound's best interests have been held hostage by Martin County officials in faraway Stuart.
It's time, they say, for Hobe Sound to take control of its own destiny.
"Hobe Sound is the last little place like this around," said Pat Martin, owner of Diamond Transfer and Garage at the corner of Bridge Road and Dixie Highway. He and others want to keep the sprawling South Florida megalopolis at bay.
