STUART – Attorney Jennifer Waters received an unexpected phone call at 7:40 a.m. Monday.
It was Gov. Rick Scott telling the 41-year-old Stuart native that he was appointing her to be Martin County’s newest judge.
“It’s a wonderful honor and a complete surprise,” said Waters, a partner in the Stuart firm Fox Wackeen, where she practices matrimonial and family law. “It was completely unexpected.
“He (Scott) told me I could cry if I needed to because I was clearly choked up.”
Scott chose Waters from a list of six names submitted in April by the 19th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, which interviewed 18 attorneys who had applied, including a record 13 women…
