Stuart delays city manager decision

STUART – After former City Manager David Ross resigned on May 4 after being in the job for only seven months, the Stuart City Commission had some decisions to make. While at the May 9 special meeting the commission debated choosing an interim city manager. They eventually unanimously decided to leave Financial Services Director Louis Boglioli as acting city manager instead, and will decide on an interim at the May 21 meeting.

Stuart Police Chief David Dyess’s name was discussed as a potential temporary replacement, but after one citizen complained that Sunshine Laws might have been violated with the selection and discussion the commission decided to deliberate further about the choice. If he assumes the role, he would take over in early June through Sept. 1, during which time the commission plans to lay out appropriate steps to choose a new full-time city manager.

“I have to say that I have the feeling that the train is coming down the track and I hear the whistle blowing,” said Stuart resident Bill Collier, adding that he has known Chief Dyess for years and respects him. “If there wasn’t Sunshine violations before this discussion, and to have a commissioner come in and say ‘I recommend this and let’s vote on it now and he can get to work tomorrow’ without ever having anything in the paper, anything that allows you to hear from other people causes me real concern.…
