MARTIN COUNTY — A new school district headquarters may not be going up this year after all.

The School Board, which for months discussed the project’s scope, on Tuesday decided to put plans for a new administration center on hold.

In fact, all major construction scheduled this year — $25 million worth — now is on the back burner until the board reworks the district's capital plan.

"This is an interim piece until we manage to do the next five-year capital plan," said board chair Christia Li Roberts. "This isn't tying your hands as far as taking care of repairs."

The board unanimously voted to delay plans for a new main office and for renovations to Stuart Middle School and South Fork High School, likely at least through the summer.
