Voters don't mind paying higher taxes for schools — outside of Martin County

Manatee County School District has it all, and voters willingly foot the bill.

A half-cent sales tax, on the books since 2002, brings the west coast district about $30 million annually for building and renovating schools.

On Tuesday, Manatee voters went even further, approving a new, second tax for schools, this time raising their property taxes to give raises to teachers and other employees…
