Martin County Commissioners Fielding, Heard called to appear in upcoming jury trial

MARTIN COUNTY — Commissioners Ed Fielding and Sarah Heard have been subpoenaed to testify in a civil case that the commissioners say potentially could incriminate them in pending criminal cases, according to court documents.

Both were called by Lake Point Restoration to testify in an upcoming civil jury trial against former Martin County Commissioner Maggy Hurchalla, who, according to Lake Point, unlawfully interfered in contracts between the private company, Martin County and the South Florida Water Management District.

Fielding filed documents on Friday stating he will plead the Fifth Amendment if called.

Heard, meanwhile, filed a motion for protective order, asking the court to prevent Lake Point from forcing her to appear in court. On Thursday, Circuit Judge William Roby delayed ruling on the motion…
