New Indiantown Village Council holds historic first meeting, elects first mayor

INDIANTOWN — Celebratory speeches kicked off the Village Council's historic first meeting Wednesday night before the five-member board jumped into the routine business of electing a mayor and appointing top officials.

More than 150 people filled the cafeteria at Indiantown Middle School for the council's first organizational meeting, which started with a swearing-in ceremony for the five council members elected in the March 13 election.

Indiantown became Florida's 413th municipality, and fifth in Martin County, after the Legislature in 2017 agreed to the incorporation and residents said yes to a Nov. 7 referendum…
