Hobe Sound renews push for incorporation

HOBE SOUND — In the wake of Indiantown's successful incorporation, Hobe Sound is taking a second crack at transforming itself from Martin County's southernmost community to an independent town governed by a five-member council.

An "official" Hobe Sound would be nearly 16 square miles with a population of 15,400, according to the proposed town charter.

It would envelope about 10 percent of Martin County's current population and $2 billion of its tax base.

It would rival Stuart, population 16,600, as the largest municipality in Martin County, according to 2016 U.S. Census data…
